Congrats on the new house. We just moved in to our new house 3 weeks ago and I am heating and cooling the garage with a mini split. These things are extremely efficient and dont require a whole lot of work to install. Here is a link to the Mitsubishi unit: http://www.mitsubishicomfort.com/en/...oduct-showcase

Best of luck with the move,

FWIW, this is very similar to the Mitsubishi unit in my garage. I"m pleased with the way it heats/cools, and it is very quiet.

I added this to my garage.

heats up the entire garage perfectly
      has an adjustable thermostat.
I can work in shorts and a t shirt during Chicago winters.

        Re: Garage heating options

Cooling and removing humidity from a garage can be a double edged sword. Yesterday I backed my C5 out the nicely cooled low humidity 72 degree garage into the high humidity 90 degree outdoors and had condensation form over the entire car. I had to turn on the wipers just to see out the windshield.

Mitsubishi is the only brand I sell. Recently they've begun offering a high efficiency unit that is rated to produce 100% of it's rated capacity down to 5* (of course you'll have to remove the snow from around it or use baffles to prevent build up) and has a SEER rating of 30. In my opinion they can't be beat in terms of quality and performance.

That's really impressive. I've always heard heat pump efficiency drops significantly below 40 degrees. Which in Indiana is about 1/4 of the year.

I also thought heat pumps were not good in colder temps. if your garage is attached to your house. i have a renzor unit which is hung on my ceiling and i added it as another zone to my house heating which is hot water. the good thing is that your epoxy floor seals the concrete and blocks out almost all the dust i to have an epoxy floor and my garage is almost dust free. this unit keeps my garage so warm i work in shorts and a tee shirt when its 10 degrees out i highly recommend this system and think it will be a great choice for the chicago area.

I know a few people that have these units and love them. I have radiant heat in the concrete floor - no a/c but I do have a fresh air handler (never get a compalint from my wife even though the garage is directly beneath the kitchen.) in my working garage I have a unit similar to John Hinckley's
