Long Term Storage of Chrome Parts

What's the best way to store chrome parts long term? I picked up some NOS side pipe cover moldings as spares and want to store them until I need them. I was going to leave a good coat of wax on them, put them in a zip lock bag with a silica packet but read online that the zip lock is a bad idea because it traps moisture and it was better to wrap in newspaper. Any thoughts? Thanks,Jack

Agree with the newspaper idea. I think your side pipe covers are bright dipped anodized aluminum however but they can still be damaged by prolonged exposure to moisture.

When I did the chrome bumpers, etc on my wife's Jag while I was restoring the car years ago, I put all of it under the bed. Since the house was heated & cooled it kept the chrome perfect. It took 4 years to restore the car, and I forgot where I put the chrome. She remembered though. Just leave yourself a note in your logbook where it is.

Jack, the chrome parts need no special treatment. You can store them anywhere under cover. If you want to just bolt them on without any cleaning or if you're afraid of "garage rash", then wrap them in something. The newspaper you mentioned or the thin kraft paper they use in packaging works fine. Plastic won't make any difference. Many chrome parts are packaged with plastic from the supplier.
