Re: Question re my vented gas cap
I have never taken one apart, but there may be a brass spring beneath the paper gasket and 3 spot weld stamping that works like a radiator cap...Don't flame me.....it is just a guess on my part.Dino Lanno- Top

Re: Question re my vented gas cap
Let's see; I have two vented gas caps for my 63 (make that three). My original has just one small hole clear through it. My GM replacement, which is currently still available, has both a vacuum valve and a pressure relief valve. This is the best design possible for my car and is what I use today. My third cap is a nice chrome locking piece which I bought from my local Chevy dealer years ago. It too has just a small vent hole in it. I use it at shows only.
There now, what's more to know about caps?

Re: Question re my vented gas cap
Duke, is it that difficult and time consuming to press a button?

Well, I "pressed the button". In fact, I did it three times but it never took me to a post on CF with your question. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Question re my vented gas cap
Before I post anything with a link, I try it out first. When I go to my initial post above and click on the link, it immediately goes to my question (with the pictures) on the CF. I have no idea why it doesn't work with other member's computers. However, got my answer to my question.
I have added a link below, again, it works for me.

Re: Question re my vented gas cap
Stephen;
One reason I, and perhaps others, are not inclined to go to a link posted in a thread is because I get dropped off from the TDB and have to sign on again. I don't recall this was the case with my old Microsoft/HP PC, but now I am using my Apple IPad a lot and that is what happens. I have not tried it with my new Apple lap top yet, but I prefer the iPad.

Re: Question re my vented gas cap
It's the elitists attitude here that prevents people who aren't part of the "clique" from asking intelligent questions. All it takes is one member making a non-substantive response, then the "teachers" pile on.
For those who did respond above with some actual information, I thank you.- Top

Here is an old discussion https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...vented-gas-cap. Do not know if that will help you. Also at the bottom of any discussion there is a box that will have "similar threads" many times the answerer to your question maybe there. Also at the bottom of that similar discussion may have another match. Hope that helps.- Top

Re: Question re my vented gas cap
I'm not sure yet what year we are talking about, but I can relate my recent experience with a 62; it does have a vent with hose and should not have a vented cap. C-1 tanks apparently don't have any baffles inside so the fuel tends to slosh around and will spill out specially on right hand turns causing a strong gas odor inside the car. Even caps with a fiber type gasket will not contain it. We had to get a cap from CC that had a rubber type gasket.
