My 67 roadster has had a "repaired" split in the driver-side seat back since I bought it in 1996. Occassionally it decides to reopen after being mended for a while. Last week I finally gave in and decided to just replace the seat back. I have to say that I was amazed to find that the seat had its original upholstery (dated dec 1966). With the car being a convertible, the upholstery being black vinyl, and the car having lived most of its life in the sun belt (Calf and Florida) I am truly amazed that the upholstery survived so well. The passenger seat and the driver seat bottom all appear to be original and are in great shape. I wonder if others have had this experience?

Re: Original 67 Upholstery
Wonderful stuff. Why not have it repaired at a local upholstery shop? Do NOT get rid of it. It belongs to your car. It's survived all these years. I still have the original leather seat covers in my silver 67. I condition them often to keep them supple. I actually contemplated putting a whole new set of seats with repro covers in the car in order to preserve the originals, but we shall see. Car is in AC garage and gets conditioned often....Cool to hear you still got your originals...>ARA- Top

Re: Original 67 Upholstery
John,
My 67 coupe has been inside (not air conditioned) since I bought it in 71. Condition is great for it's age but before my frame up resto it started to crack at the seams. Every time I fixed it, it just cracked at another seam. I want everything to look as if it were on the showroom floor so I am replacing all of the interior, even my door panels that are not damaged.

Re: Original 67 Upholstery
My '67 Coupe must have had a pretty pampered life. When I restored it, the seat covers and door panels were in such good condition that I used them as is. One of the door panels has a small tear where the trim fastens, but I plan to repair it. I have been practicing with vinyl repair on my '68, and think I have it down pretty well.
BTW, I call my car the "good enough coupe", because it had a lot of parts that were good enough that I think they didn't need to be replaced.- Top
