009.jpg004.jpgI recently removed the door panels from my 1968 Convertible and noticed that the washers on the screws holding the upper rear corner of the door panels are different. Can anyone tell me which (if either) is correct? (The one on the right looks like a standard hardware store part, so I assume it is the other.) Sorry for the poor quality of some of the pics; I don't know what I did to get the one good one and couldn't duplicate the quality. Is there a source for these?

Re: Door panel washers
Hi Dennis,
I have no reason to think the washers didn't vary in configuration. Maybe not just from year to year, but perhaps also with-in a model year.
Here's what's on my 71. Note the screw has a 'captured' collet too.
Hopefully you'll get some other input.

Re: Door panel washers
Thanks Alan,
You're probably right about them varying between (and maybe within) years of production, but I don't think they would vary on one car. BTW, the washer that I believe to be original was also a "captured" washer; I removed it from the screw to be able to take a better picture of it. Your pictures of your '71 are a help, but they seem to be of an entirely different configuration than my '68. You seem to have a captured smaller washer that fits into what I called the "Hardware store" washer. I have found that '68's are a breed all unto themselves. Hopefully, an owner of an original '68 will chime in.

Re: Door panel washers
Very interesting. John, by any chance can you give me the build date of your car? (mine is May 23, 1968). My car has the original door panels as well. If you guys are correct, it'll save a lot of hassle, because I have the "captured collet" screws in my interior screw kit as well as the "hardware store" washers. Wonder where the "sombrero" washer on it came from?- Top
