1970 seat belt carpet guide rubber insert

I checked the AIM but I can't determine where these go or how they are attached/installed? Any pics and/or description would be appreciated. Thanks!

Those belong on some 1969s, but not a 1970 -- at least no 1970 I have ever seen.

Agree with Terry. My original owner 1970 with its original carpet does not have carpet these guides. My 1968 original owner has these, but they are red to match the red carpet.

These things fit very poorly on 1969's. I expect that's why GM decided to drop them for 1970 and beyond.

My late (October 21, 1969) doesn't have these.

My mid-September, 1969 has them. So, they must have been dropped between those times (or, yours were removed prior to the time you got the car; sometimes this happens if carpets are replaced).

Parts like these that are interior color matched are very difficult to pin down when they begin and end unless they are part of a model year design change. That is why the TIM&JG is silent on when they ended, and also the reason I said "some" 1969s had them. Skilled interior judges know that those grommets didn't go all the way to the end of 1969 production, but it is a good bet that black ones ended at a different point than red or blue. To track these changes some 45 years after the cars were produced seems akin to the story of Sisyphus and his bolder.

My interior is black, so I would imagine they used up that color first since it was the most popular color.Anyone else with a late 69 care to chime in?Ed

That could be Ed; unless they had a greater supply of black on hand anticipating the more common use of that color.

Good point Terry! We need more late 69 car owners to post what they have (or don't have).

There, I fixed it for you Ed. It will get easier if we all push that bolder, but there are insufficient members on this board -- even if every one of us owned a later 1969, to get to the top of the mountain.

Thanks for the responses. I did come across this in the '70 AIM. I assume the grommet ("part of 4") referenced in the diagram is what I posted in the OP. Based on the comments though it seems it was not installed for 1970.

I am on the road to Bowling Green with Corvette Caravan so I can not check my 1970 AIMs -- none from MidAmerica -- no offense to them just several different versions.
I can tell you my 1970 #2161, Jan 29 build does not have them -- Bright Blue interior though.

The July built 1969 I just finished up had them.

The interior is saddle and the original inserts (that I found in one of 30 boxes) were black, not interior carpet color.

Bill, all I have ever seen were carpet color, and only on 1969s.

Looking at the date at bottom of the AIM page, I tend to believe they were dropped before 1970 production began. I suppose there could have been some rarely used colors left from 1969.
