    Re: 1977 hot water shut off valve

    My GM Corvette parts catalog is NO help. It lists as follows:

    75-77 Y W/ A.C 500956

    76-78 Y 494192

    76-80 Y 14032007

    There were other year model overlaps, but I just included those that included 77. That is exactly as printed. Only one number mentioned A.C.. Do you have the old one? If so, it may have a number stamped on it. Chip.

      My 1979 Corvette Parts Catalog (June 1979) lists GM # 494192 for 76-80 Y models and GM # 500956 for 75-77 Y w/ AC models.

      According to my May 1976 Chev. Price Schedule GM # 500956 listed for $ 9.95 and was used on many GM models. GM # 494192 listed for $11.60 and was used on various Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models.

      My 1977 Chevrolet (excludes Corvette) Parts Catalog (March 1977) lists GM # 494192 for 77 A & 77-78 B models 6 cyl. w/AC.
      GM # 500956 is listed for 76-77 A 6 cyl. w/AC.
      GM # 495613 is listed for 76 A 6 cyl. w/AC.

      A = Chevelle
      B = full size Chevrolet

      Is there a part number in the 1977 Corvette AIM?

        I'm not 100% sure that a valve was used on non A/C 1977's. However, if it was, it was the same valve as used on A/C 1977's. If your car is non-A/C and has the valve, then we know, for sure, that non-A/C cars did use the valve.

        If the valve was used, it was GM #495613. This valve was GM-discontinued without supercession in October, 1982. However, you should still be able to find NOS examples of this valve around.

        While it's not a direct supercession, a valve of current GM #12515169 is cataloged for your application. This is a plastic valve that's configured significantly different than the 495613. It might work, though; I just don't know.

          GM # 494192, #500956, and #495613 were all available over the GM counter in March 1977.

          GM # 500956 is still available for $47.14 list and there is a photo of it on GM Parts Direct.

          There is a NOS 495613 valve currently on Ebay (with photo) for $59.94 buy-it-now as well as a NOS AC Delco valve (no part no. given) that appears to be the same as the GM 495613 valve for $19.99 buy-it-now . There is also a NOS 494192 valve currently on Ebay with photo.

            I referenced Mid America sheet 49 and they are dead on with the heater and the sealer black pumpable 03 gallon part # 9985059 .Also shows on another page heater valve number 491613. on all ac and non ac cars. They seem to be correct for me 100% of the time.

                Attached are photos of an NOS GM #495613 [not for sale]. This is the valve that the AIM says was used for both AC and non-AC 1977 applications.
