My mother and father like my Corvette so much they are now looking for one. There is one car that they are interested in. It's a 1974 convertible. While inspecting the dash we noticed two small knobs just under the steering column. What are these knobs for? Are they original to the car. Thanks, Don

Re: Knobs under dash on 1974 Corvette
If I remember correctly, one is the trip odometer reset knob and the other opens/closes your headlight doors without having to turn on your headlights (so you can raise them when washing your car...vacuum operated) It is a push/pull knob. Does this car have an owner's manual?? If not, they are available from just about all the vendors. Dunno about the odometer reset, but I had a '76 and one of those is definitely for manually opening the headlight doors. You pull on it and the doors open.
Edit: I went digging around and found my '76 owners manual and Leif is right, the other knob is the odometer reset. Mine probably didn't work that's why I don't remember it. (No PV for me.)Last edited by Mark H.; August 17, 2014, 08:19 PM.- Top

Leif's response is correct. One knob to reset the odometer and the other to open the headlight doors. I am the original owner of a 1974 convertible that I took delivery of in Sept. 1973. I still enjoy the car. Hope your parents can find a good one.- Top
