I have 2 of the fan shroud extensions for C3s. One is an NOS the other, OEM, used but in good condition. The NOS still has the original part sticker with the P/N 331870, GR. 1.277. They seem very similar, well nuts are in the same location, physical appearance seem identical except for one feature. The opening on the NOS extension is larger than the OEM used extension. Why is the opening on the OEM extension smaller then the NOS extension? Appreciate any help.

The 331870 is an extension that was originally used for 1973-75 applications with small block and C-60. It became SERVICE much later for many 69-72 applications, replacing the 3956118. The 3956118 had a lower half configuration like the OEM extension you picture. However, my recollection is that the 3956118 was a "half-round" extension, not a full round. So, I'm not sure what the one you have is. Is there no part number embossed on it?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Fan Shroud extensions
I have searched with a flash light to find a number on the OEM extension and can not find one. The only difference between the 2 is the cut in the shroud. The NOS one has a larger opening. Look at the photo and you can see they're the same except for the cut out area. I just wonder if the original shrouds had a smaller opening and the replacement came with a larger opening.- Top

I am not sure what you have there, but if you are intending that for your 1970 #6 I have some doubts about either one of them. FWIW: The original extension on my 1970 is not a full 360 degrees.Terry- Top

Re: Fan Shroud extensions
Thanks Terry for the info. I was not looking to install it on the #6 cars. Actually I want to sell them, but I want to make sure what they actually fit so I don't miss lead anybody. I believe the NOS extension is for 73-75 small block cars with a/c. Just curious about the difference in the cut out. I thought the OEM, with the small cut out maybe the original installed on the assembly line and the NOS with the larger cut out is a replacement. Whish I could find out so I don't miss lead someone.Thanks- Top

Someone with an original 1973-75 small block with C-60 would be the best one to comment on what an original extension looks like. There must be some out there. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
