Rivet Head Question

I want to purchase some mushroom head rivets for my 63 corvette and the Paragon catalog page 120 shows a part 713 Universal head and also a part #1127. These two rivets look the same in my eyes, both are 3/16" dia and 9/16" long.

Can someone tell me which one is correct for my 63, I sure appreciate the info..

Tim,
Let me know which location/part in the AIM you're trying to match up. I've documented just about single rivet type on my April 63 and can probably help out. I've seen both universal and round head rivets used. Was able to match up through Jay-Cee Sales and Rivets with acceptable results.

I want to rivet the nut plate for a power brake booster on my 67 as well as the bracket that holds the windshield washer tank on the inner fender. I am thinking universal head and the 1/2" flat head, I can trim the length, am I correct.

No knowledge on 67s, but definitity get longer rivets than you think you need. Here's why....usually the holes get inadvertantely oversized when the old ones are drilled out. A longer rivet provides more material to swell and fill the hole during the bucking process. In a typical "new" installation, you have a clearance fit of .005 -.008 inch between the rivet and hole diameter. For this you shoot for enough rivet to extend 1.5 X rivet diameter beyond the stack-up. In a sloppier oversize hole you will need closer to 2 X diameter poking through the stack. I buy enough rivet for a 3 X Diameter and trim them for each hole depending on the clearances.

One VERY important thing is to buy the "SOFT" aluminum rivets to use in fiberglass. You do not need or want any type of heat treatment on the rivet. You can trim soft aluminum rivets back with a pair of dykes. Heat treated rivets require a grinder, you don't need that hassle.

They are definitely 3/16 universal head rivets for the washer tank bracket. Rivet part # is 455624. Head dia spec is .375". Mine measured around .400". See attached picture.
