I'm showing my age here, but at one time (I'm sure Terry remembers), the hotel would not book a room until one had registered for the convention and had a code number from Cincinnati. There were many folks booking rooms just in case they went and then releasing them a month or so before the convention began when plans changed. And that was when attendance was not as high as it is now because we only judged 1953-72.

As for Hampton: Remember the entire hotel selling out in one day when it was posted here that reservations were being accepted?

I remember it well. We had to stay down the street. I also remember while we were there the host hotel had rooms available but would not give the block rate. Kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Those vacancies were probably created by those who just thought that that they might go.

Funny thing about group blocks in hotels. This year at KC, we had to get one room outside the block on Saturday night and it was $30 cheaper than the group rate which began on Sunday.
