C4 1991
I'm asking this question for a friend's car. He has a 1991 coupe. When the car is started it stalls out , also stalls when he applies gas. The fuel pump and gas filter have been replaced. I think the only two things it could be is fuel or electrical. Could this be a relay switch? Any information would be helpful.Paul Manobianco (55025)

Had a problem like this. Replaced all kinds of parts on it. Turned out to be the wire from the ECM to the dist came out of the loom and shorted out on the blockComment

Yes the car will start. I struggled with mine for a long time. When I would give it gas the engine would die but it would start and idle. I said, lets get back to the basics. You need Spark, Fuel and Air properly timed. I would die if I revved the throttle. The easiest thing was to add some fuel. I took off the Mass Air Flow and Intake and when I revved it tried shooting some ether into the throttle body and it no longer died. This was after weeks of thinking and troubleshooting. It told me where to look (fuel). I had been told by folks to check by ohms (resistance) on my my fuel injectors for weeks and I never did thinking it was a waste of time. Well. I finally did after I confirmed my problem was fuel. I cant remember the spec for measurement (you can look it up online or in the factory service manual) but it immediately showed that the fuel injectors were bad. It took about 2 minutes to check all of them and I dont know what i waited so long except that it was running and I thought that if mine were not working correctly, it would be leakage etc and not show up as a fuel injector electrical problem. Its' so easy to check the ohms and it worked for me. I like to keep my car original but went with some rebuilt bosch 3 from Fuel Injector Connection in Cumming Georgia (they have a website). After swapping them out it ran great. The biggest issue with the Bosch III injectors are that they are yellowish orange so they dont appear factory but my car is not a show car so I'm ok with that, still I try to maintain originality wherever possible. Hope this helps. You problem may be different but yes, it will start and even run with bad fuel injectors.Comment

If it turns out to be the fuel injectors, which I think is likely, I highly recommend replacing all of the injectors even if only one is bad now. The others will likely fail in short order. The original injectors are still available from AC Delco or GM. They're expensive, of course. However, these injectors are manufactured by DELPHI. You can purchase a set of the original injectors under the DELPHI brand for about half the cost of the GM parts. While I do not generally believe that aftermarket parts, including non-OEM AC Delco product lines, are the same as OEM, in this case the GM/AC-Delco OEM or DELPHI are the same.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
