    Gm #3982098

A few days ago Tom Russo e-mailed me regarding information on a few part numbers. One of the part numbers is GM #3982098, a special J-nut used on various model year Corvettes. For Tom and others that might be interested, herewith are some photos of an NOS example of that part number. Note that this J-nut is unusual in several ways. For one thing, it is zinc plated whereas most J-nuts were black phosphate-finished. This piece, originally released in late 1970, was discontinued without supercession several years ago.

      Thanks Joe

For the curious, the application was the front spoiler of a 1978 Pace Car...and I believe we concluded those threads are metric.

        Tom------

This wasn't the metric-threaded part. This one is 1/4-20. This part dates back to late 1970, before GM's US operations was even thinking about metric fasteners.

Me, return parts? I'll bet I haven't done that 10 times in my whole life. I remember once way back in 1967 I bought a GM #3863143 camshaft that I was going to install in my 1966 Chevelle SS 396 with L-34 engine. I decided not to do it and I returned the camshaft. I've regretted returning it for years; I wish I still had it. Not that I've ever had any real use for it but it just bothers me I returned it and it got away from me.

Too bad it's all "not for sale" as Joe would say.
