Tim,The timing light you have now will be more than sufficient to set the timing advance at idle and judge if your correction of the drive gear worked. To chart your timing at higher engine speeds / varying vacuum conditions you will need either that new dial back timing light or add timing marks to your harmonic damper. As you are just beginning this adventure simply removing the distributor, correcting the gear and perhaps re-clocking the plug wire assignments will be a good manageable first project.Chris

Thanks Chris. I bought a dial back timing light and Mity-Vac today. I'm sure the dial back will make it easier.

Tim and everyone else that has helped….update on fuel pump failure:

I performed an autopsy on the failed fuel pump per Duke's suggestion. I found no tears in diaphragm etc BUT I DID find that the inlet valve was stuck open…I sent Duke some photos and he pointed this out to me. So, Tim's earlier suggestion about a leak in the suction side of the pump may have been on track. I will contact company from which I purchased it to see if they have other similar failures etc.
