Re: 64 stalled at 50 MPH??

Does the Holley Carb have a small porous brass fuel filter in the fuel line inlet???? Possibly plugged...... You will only get so many squirts from the accel pump if the engine isn't turning. Basically you empty the fuel bowl. There is also some delay between squirts to allow the accel pump to refill after it has been emptied.

Check you ignition coil condenser. I had this happen to me on my '64 and it ended up being a bad condenser.

Tim, I removed the + coil wire, taped it, removed the fuel line at carb, stuck fuel line in a can and had neighbor crank engine for 15 seconds. The fuel flow was steady but a VERY slow, almost a trickle. In cranking 15 seconds the fuel pump only pumped
            < 1/8 of a pint or < 50CC or < 2 FL. OZ. (approximately 1 1/2 FL. OZ.)

Does this verify the fuel pump is bad? The fuel had to pump through the GF-90 fuel filter to come out so could it also be a possibility the fuel filter is clogged?

            Any thoughts are much appreciated!!!!!

              Hi Tim,

That sounds very low IMO, how hard is it to remove the filter and do the same test. Less than 2oz. of fuel in 15 seconds is not enough to run the engine.

Could there be a leak in the suction side of the pump like one of the rubber lines causing the pump to suck air instead of fuel from the tank.

Try to keep with the simple stuff first, these fuel pumps don't go bad very often it's a simple mechanical pump.

The coil capaciter mounted along side the coil.

Capacitor is for noise/static reduction. Don't believe it'll be a factor in the engine running. Now the condenser next to the points may. This is sounding more like a fuel related issue.

Tim - Here's a pic of the sending unit out of my 65 Coupe. I'm guessing that the bend in the sock looks about the same as what you saw in your tank? Even though my tank and the sock had a fair amount of those tiny rust particles, the old sock was still pliable but of course I added the new sock anyway.

                            Tm,
You should not have any issues. I suggest you photo the disassembly as you go along. Pump is quite simple and should be straight forward rebuild. The only area is to be sure the diaphragm plunger loop is hooked on and does not come off.
