Re: 64 stalled at 50 MPH??
Tim, If you can pour a little gas down the throat of the carb and it starts start looking for a fuel issue, If you had a rebuilt fuel pump installed it could have quit. make sure you see fuel in the tank when you remove gas cap, check the rubber fuel hoses at the lower tank and at the engine for kinking.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Also,
Does this problem start after everything warms up? Do you have one of those reproduction coils on the engine.- Top

Re: 64 stalled at 50 MPH??
Tim,
Unhook the fuel line to the carburetor and put a small catch can there and see how long it takes to crank the engine and fill the can. Pump a pint or quart and see how the flow is, unhook the coil primary positive terminal before you crank the engine.- Top

Re: 64 stalled at 50 MPH??
Tim,
I would say 15 seconds to fill a pint, I don't have my service manual in front of me at present but it's something like that.
Disconnect the coil primary positive wire and there will be no spark from the coil. Make sure you tape that + wire because there will be power there and you don't want it to touch ground after you disconnect it.- Top

Re: 64 stalled at 50 MPH??
The way you first described your problem, I thought for sure you had a bad ballast resistor/connection. Had this happen once long ago and can't forget it. Car would start (by-passing resistor for 12 volts), then die when switch went back to ON (8 volts). Drove me nuts. Guess you're past that point if you're not getting fuel.

Tim
Your AC 40083 fuel pump is rebuildable again. Buy yourself a NEW rebuild kit and have at it. I understand the newer materials are better with the corn juice. Also if you have old material fuel hoses consider changing them too.- Top

Re: 64 stalled at 50 MPH??
Tim - I know you said there was no visible sludge in the tank but any possibility of tiny rust particles, small enough to get through the sending unit sock and past the fuel filter into the carb that might be causing a fuel blockage? I added this inline Fram filter because I was using an Edelbrock #1406 carb on my 65 300 horse Coupe. The particles were very small, almost like silt. Maybe take off one of your fuel bowls to see what's inside.
