    427 BB heating

Other then going to a small block, what is the one best thing to get a BB to run cooler.

How 'bout a Briggs and Stratton?

Seriously, no one has ever had temperature problems with big block... never, ever, so no one will have any answers.

Lots of timing advance, a good radiator, a good fan(s), a good water pump, and a clean block

Turn off engine and tow car with another. Make sure block wasn't filled with cement to make a race block.

All these, and also make sure your thermostat is working (even brand spanking new ones sometimes are defective) and Zerex for antifreeze. More corrosion-resistant than the green stuff and keep rad fluid cooler.

Is your vacuum advance working? Does your vacuum advance give lots of advance with available vacuum pull, does it give 100% full time vacuum?

Central Florida, 427 435 bored 030 and no major overheating issues. idling in horrible traffic gets it up to about 215-220 tops mid day, about 195 in the evening. Side benefit of driving it in these conditions, I lose a lot of weight!!

Had only one problem with overheating on my stock 427/390. A worn out clutch fan was the problem...... replaced it and has been great since.

A Dewitt's aluminum radiator keeps my big block around 180-190 in almost all conditions.

And a standard radiator with a new core will do the same thing.

I live in Phoenix Az. M 2 67'S 390 /AC & 435 run 180/190 even in traffic with 105 outside temps. I found 90% of the time overheating is caused by a bad or wrong fan clutch.

There are two things that cool a BB down or help you cope with the problem.

                        1. Install a Be Cool Aluminum Radiator with shroud and electric fans (2).

                        2. Take the carpet out and use double backed aluminum insulator under the carpet and seal with the aluminum duct tape. Replace the carpet and quit worrying about how hot the BB gets!

You have given the TDB nothing to go by. First, what's the OE engine configuration? Has it been modified? How? At least we know it's a '67, but you should verify.

What kind of operating temperatures are you seeing under various driving conditions and ambient temperatures?

Hot running requires checking the spark advance map, fan clutch, and radiator age and condition, but you have to have some data and know what the current configuration of the engine/cooling system is before you can start on a objective search for the solution.

There are a zillion threads on the TDB about hot running/overheating, especially big blocks, and half a zillion answers, many of which are to fill up the car with aftermarket parts, which is the wrong path to follow. Do some archive searching, and you should learn something about the diagnotistic and corrective procedures, and provide the TDB with some real information.

The quality of the information and data you provide will dictate the quality of the recommendations.
