    c2 Door Panel Refurbush

Are there any refurb places for door panels? I've read that Al Knoch did some panel restoration but that was some time ago.

      Try............ http://www.drvinyl.com/

I believe it best that you supply the spray dye. So do some testing first with the dye's.

Have you had experience with this company? I have the original panels in my 66. They have a couple of small cracks. I hate to replace them with reproductions if they can be repaired to a high standard.

Not yet, my 63 dash pads will be going there. A restorer I know uses them and says they are OK to use. They are all franchises as I understand so each one might have different quality results. I'll be using the one north of Boston.

AS info many years ago I used to spray all the interior in cars that I changed, restored or redid in general. There is a company called Uticolor that has made vinyl spray paints since I started in early 1970's. Have not had any dealing with the products lately, but the products was sold thru automobile paint supply company. The guy restoring my '66 roadster now says the work I did 38 years ago was excellent - using the same material.

I'm surprised that no one has developed a national presence in doing panel restoration. Maybe its not worth the effort as long as ca has good reproduction panels for $500. My panels look pretty good and I'd like to save them if possible.

John, All you really need a vinyl repair person, if you have a New car dealer that you deal with or a used car lot they can likely put you in touch with someone. and generally these type of people do a seamless job, I have seen many repairs over the years. Dash boards, door panels, visors are common for repairs .And NO MATTER what the factory panels fit better than any reproduction.

I actually did get a name from my dealership. They get leather/vinyl tears from the dealer. I'm not sure they could handle smoothing the surface, refitting trim... Although I know they have a better shot at it than I do.

John, If the name the dealership gave you was a repair guy you'll like be surprised of the repair quality, They generally mix there own interior paint , and they don't remove the panels and trim if there is no call for it, It's generally a spot repair (s). If you want to repaint the whole panel (s) you could remove them and just give them to him.

Actually the place the dealership uses is a glass and upholstery place. I know the original founder (I think he's dead by now as that was many years ago). They were originally a glass repair/replacement outfit. I don't know when they expanded into upholstery. I'm certainly willing to talk to them.
