    Source for Dwell/Tach Meter

My 50+ year old Dwell/Tach meter finally gave up the ghost, just when I have a 62 fuelie project car to work on that has a dual point distributor. I was so looking forward to practicing my old craft again after all these years of electronic this and digital that.

Do you think Monkey Ward will stand behind it and give me a new one?

Seriously, I checked with a number of Auto parts stores and looked through all my stack of catalogs to no avail.

Any suggestions, or who wants to sell me theirs?

No problem, at all, getting one. Actron makes both analog and digital tach/dwell meters. If you are content with the old-fashioned analog type, they can be pretty inexpensive. Anyplace that sells Actron products should have or be able to get one. Amazon and Summit Racing are two that come to mind quickly.

If you can find a dial back timing light with a tach and dwell in a all in one unit, you would be able to check all the timing functions including your advance curve and your vacuum advance.

All looks good guy's. Why didn't I think of them. I do have a Summit catalog, but didn't see any there. Will look again. The "all in one" idea sounds real good. trouble is, I've asked around for even just a dial back timing light and most look at me and say"what?"

          Thanks again.

Thanks Joe. That should do the trick. That's all I really need.

                      Ed,

I just bought that exact unit from National Tool Warehouse for $108.66. Still pricey but better than $210.09.

                        Tim -

More vintage stuff - I bought my still-working tach/dwell meter at J.C. Penney in the late 1950's, and based on the link you posted, it was made for them by KAL tools; nobody makes stuff like this any more - chrome-plated die-cast housing, solid glass meter lens, high-quality cord and clamps. A real quality tune-up instrument.

So I guess I can conclude that J.C.Penney handles better equipment than Montgomery Wards. Mine was a plastic case and I kept it the original box all these years, but apparently age did it in. I know I never dropped it and it worked well on the last car that I had with points (probably my 72 Nova SS).

Thanks for all the good references guys.

I have an Actron model 615 (6315). I bought it from K-Mart a long time ago, and it works fine.

I tried to post a picture of it, but the #$@*! thing won't download.

I found one used for sale at Goodwill. There are probably others out there.
