i removed my front bumpers to clean them and found that the 4 bolts which connected the front crossmember to the center bumper brackets were grade 8 bolts with an "M" marking according to the manual it should be a grade 2 bolt has anyone ever seen this or were these replaced the length and width of the bolts is correct

Re: 67 front bumper bolts
Robert, IMO these grade eight (M) bolts look to be from the rear where the crossmember bolts to the frame or from the brake caliper bracket mounting.- Top

Those (8) bolts (#122253) aren't described in the '67 JG (other than they're silver zincad), but they're the same bolt that's used to secure the bottom end of the outboard seat belt reinforcement cable to the frame.- Top

Re: 67 front bumper bolts
Robert,
The bolts you show are indeed the correct bolts for the lower front bumper braces. The four grade 8 M bolts are to secure the front brackets to the front crossmember and the four grade 8 WB bolts are to secure the lower bumpers to the brackets. There is indeed a sleeve inside the lower bumper braces. As for the finish, I have never seen any grade 8 for the front bumpers that were not black phosphate.

I agree with you on the four WB bolts (grade 8, black phosphate), but as John Hinckley says, the GM #122253 bolts are the same as the ones used to secure the outboard seat belt reinforcement cables, and known originals of those bolts are grade 2, not grade 8. And those seat belt cable bolts are known to be zinc/cad, not black phosphate. And to the best of my knowledge, only the four WB bumper hardware bolts are black phosphate, at least for 63-66, but I think '67 also. So, I don't think grade 8 and black phosphate are correct for GM #122253.

Re: 67 front bumper bolts
All C2 1-1/4" front and rear bumper bolts are grade 2. If the grade 8 M bolts are 1-1/8" long they are the rear end crossmember to rear mounting bolts, if they are 1-1/4" they are for the rear crossmember to frame bolts.- Top
