Considering going to electronic ignition on the dual point 1957

After spending a lot of trial and error time fine tuning my original dual point distributor on my 245 hp 1957, I am considering going to electronic ignition. Have any of you 1957 owners done this? I seem to recall that most of the ads for these units are for later C1s.

The "0ne wire" trigger is only for later window type distributors. Not sure if Pertronix type can convert a dual point without messing things up. May can just zip tie one of the unneeded wires back. Check with Pertronix. Duke's going to tell you to stick to points, but electronic trigger gets rid of dwell setting, etc. You takes your choice.

The '57 was running fine but once a year I like to check the dwell and the timing. I sometimes like to visually inspect the condition of the points. When I followed the procedure as outlined in the ST-12, one set read low dwell by about 4 degrees. I adjusted it the best I could but then found the combined dwell was off several degrees. I know there is a way to set dwell without starting and stopping the engine each time and I will probably follow it next time if I decide to keep the points.
From the posts I have read about electronic ignition, it seems like a good idea. Perhaps not for performance but at least for easier maintenance.

I have had a Pertronix in my 62 Corvette dual point distributor for about 15 years with no problems.
I believe they make one for 57 Corvette distributors.

Google Pertronix Ignitor then enter distributor part number (1110891 ?) and you will find if the Pertronix is available.

Do you plan on having your car judged? If not, yank that dizzy and put in one with a vacuum advance. I pulled the "891" out of my 270HP and installed a single point dizzy with vacuum advance. After re-curving it and changing the vacuum can I have much better throttle response, engine runs cooler and much better gas mileage.

            Jim:
I have taken it to Top Flight at the Regional level. At this point in my life and considering the 21 years I have owned the '57, I would like to make the tuning a bit easier. I have the single point distributor with the vacuum advance in my '61 and it is a breeze to adjust the dwell. As you say it may run better too.
