    '67 engine stamping pad

Anyone want to venture a guess on this pad?

    Thanks...

I'll take a stab Tony. It's from a '67.....just a wild guess here, a Corvette. The '2' in the VIN stamp stands out as cut deeper into block and looking not typical. What do you see?

I looked at this car recently and wanted to get some thoughts on the pad. This car is for sale in the KC area and appears to be a California A.I.R. car. I'm not a stamp pad expert so I'd like to get others opinions about the pad and if it appears original.

Based on the photo provided, I would say the pad is original as stamped by GM. The final "2" in the VIN is obviously not typical, but I still feel it is an original. FWIW

That "7" sure doesn't look evenly spaced with the other numbers and also looks higher on the pad the other numbers in the VIN. Might be the angle of the picture, but I don't think so.....ARA.....ALSO, when you saw the pad, was there a "1" underneath that funky 2? I ask because IF the factory did this, it would be because they forgot to change the number for the next car in line....so I would guess seeing a "1" underneath that funky 2 would make sense....

Here's what the car before it looked like.

Major difference in the diameter of the "0" and a different looking "6". The OP vin pad appears to be double-stamped.

Stamp looks original to me- Different 0 and 6 is because DATE is stamped at Flint and the VIN # is stamped at St Louis and the Engine configurations are different.

I agree with Joseph. I'm not an expert, but it looks right to me. The 2 does look like it was struck as a correction, but that would not surprise too many people as having been possible. The 7 looks the same in both vin stamps too. FWIW

Way too much chatter about the numbers being out of line. The fact is that GM did not change the holders and as they aged the numbers were not held straight. When a perfect stamp appears, there is a red flag that goes up.
