1965 - 365hp flame arrestor grommet

Hi Guys;

On my 65' 365hp convertible, I have the original air cleaner unit and flame arrestor on the base. The flame arrestor sits directly onto the metal base. I recently bought a flame arrestor rubber grommet from Long Island Corvette, however; I'm not sure it's required. I might have mixed up the application. The part number at Long Island is 22-08C & 22-11B. Was there a rubber grommet installed at the factory between the flame arrestor and the air cleaner base ? Thanks in advance.

David, I do not recall a gasket on the flame arrestor, It just a press fit.

Those are big-block parts - 22-08C is the rubber grommet for the in-line flame arrestor that goes in the driver's side valve cover on a '67 3x2, and 22-11B is the rubber grommet in the '65-'67 BB pass. side valve cover where the breather tube elbow from the air cleaner base inserts. The flame arrestor on the 327/365 is a press fit on the tube inside the air cleaner, and doesn't use a grommet.

David, also check to make sure your flame arrestor is original. Known originals had the 4 dimples on the top of the screen and also had "GM" stamped on the base of arrestor in 2 places (both directly across from eachother - meaning one stamping at 3 o'clock and the other at 9 o'clock). ARA
