1955 Tombstone Heat Riser Judging Points and Repros

Hi. I am looking at buying a Tombstone Heat Riser for a 1955 Corvette, and see that there are reproductions out there for about $125. I have the NCRS Judging Manual,as well as the Judging Sheets printed out, but I am not sure how many points the Tombstone Heat Riser is worth for judging.

Also, the reproduction Tombstones do not have the GM part # in them, and I am wondering if the judges will deduct strongly for that also. I am just trying to calculate if it is worth a $125 investment if I will not get the full amount of points, and if it is not even worth that many points.

Any advice from the much more knowledgeable members here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Steve Sperrazza

BTW I have seen people attempt to stamp the GM and part number on the repro but never successfully. Material is very hard. You might get one and see if you could have the data duplicated by laser cutting.

Or why not find an original? Used on most if not all 55 Chevy V8s.

As far as judging, you would have a configuration and date issue in the CDCIF.

roy has posted pictures of two heat risers on the corvette forum. the judging manual mentions the 335 as being correct, so that is the one they expect to see on a car being judged.( I have seen the 512 on later cars). the heat risers roy posted were two of the risers I emailed to him several years back as examples of early and late tombstone heat risers. if you are interested in the 335 riser that is in the post the price of that riser is $375 due to the 335 being a much harder riser to locate than the 512. ( even if you are able to locate a tombstone riser, chances are that it's base will be cracked.)
