When mounting the strip of vinyl trim to the inside edge of the deck lid on a '64 convertible, were flat washers used under the small "acorn nuts"? The vinyl strip has 11 6/32" studs that go through the mounting holes in the edge of the deck lid..... It would make sense if washers were used, but I'm not sure... Thanks!Garry Eastwood#38705

Garry, my 63 has washers, they are just a little bigger than the typical washer for that size stud.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

all c-2 roadsters i've worked on had flat washers between fiberglass and acorn nut. al knock's 63-64 vinyl trim gets deductions from interior judges as al's heat-strips are excessivel in length. also, his acorn nuts are larger than originals. mike- Top

Re: Mounting the vinyl trim to the edge of the deck lid on a '64 convertible
Not sure about the '64, but my '66 has the wrong washers and acorn nuts. A friend's '66 in our chapters has original nuts and washers. The flat washers are thin and about 5/8" dia and the original acorn nuts use a 5/16" wrench while the incorrect acorn nuts on mu car are 3/8" ATF.
The repro nuts on my car are with a solid dome, while the originals have a split dome.
I was going to look for small fender washers at some of the big box stores, but does anyone know if anyone reproduces the correct 5/16" ATF acorn nuts.- Top

Gerald,
The stud does not protrude out of the top of the acorn nuts. The studs on the repro vinyl trim are not the same as on the original vinyl trim. I'll get photos of the original washers and acorn nuts as I have amassed several extras of both items over the years.

James....
Do these "split acorn nuts" fit the smaller 6/32" studs in the original vinyl trim.....? The studs in Knock's repro trim are larger.... therefore take a larger acorn nut?

Yes. All the acorn nuts and washer in my pictures were taken off of original C2 deck lid vinyl trim strips. In 2006 I bought every C2 deck lid vinyl trim strip I could find at Corvettes at Carlisle for little or nothing.
