1954 carpet install advice please

Im going to install the carpet soon. My concern is the shifter. Does the shifter need to be touhing the fibergass or is the carpet between the shifter housing and fiberglass. Seems like there should be some dum dum there to seal it........Hump carpet first I would imagine.........Spray adheasive all over or just in spots. Any advice is good Thanks !!!

Get carpet warm (pavement in sun) work on centering carpet and getting front back correct, I spray both carpet back and fiberglass starting on driver side of tunnel getting accelerator correct then work to door, repeat for passenger side. Adhesive to all carpet surface.

Thanks Lynn for the info, what did you do with the shifter, install it tight then cut enough carpet away but leave enough for the chrome ring to cover? Looks tricky because the screws go thru the ring in order to mount the shifter.

get the carpet in first
test fit - test fit - test fit
once in - then you can cut the hole for the shifter to go thru
the screw holes - use an awl or some thing sharp - enlargen with a philips screw driver.
the chrome bezel goes in after that .....

Thanks Chris, Any pic of the screws, looking at the shifter housing, looks like a smaller version of striker screws with the wide flange head. I need to find something that works. Also I imagine the gas pedal needs to come off.

The pedal is installed before carpet - fits around it
The screws are fine thread
