    Original Door Jambs (Pictures Wanted)

I am in the final stages of prep for paint for my 1972. I am now doing the jambs and recess on the side of the car where the gills go.
The previous painter was very detailed and spent excessive time cleaning up these two areas.
So, what I am looking for is pictures of the door jambs and side gill recesses on cars that have the original paint still on them.
Original paint cars would show the best condition of the areas I need to try to replicate. Or a car that one knows for sure no real works was done on them. But I prefer pictures of original paint cars if I can find them.
I would love to make them look exactly as they did when they were original, but I will see what I am in for as I continue to cut into them.

The nice thing is the painter left the primer on the original jambs before he started working with filler, so it is very easy to see where to stop sanding. My real issue seems to be where I need to build up any areas that were cut down to clean up the looks.

Any pictures you guys have of the gill recess or the door jams would be appreciated.
My car was built in early April of 1972. Just for information.
And yes, I know behind the gills cannot really be seen after the gills are in, but why not try to clean that up too if I can.

Thank for taking a look and any help you can provide.
I thought she might be in the beautiful Mille Miglia Red by now, but I am sure a lot of you can understand how some things just seem to take a bit longer than we thought. Hell, everything when it comes to these cars. LOL

    Thanks Again

I have a RR 68 with original paint. I can't post pictures here but if you want to pm me with your email I can take a couple with an iPhone and email them to you.

Or, if you're on Long Island you can see it in person

      Monte,
As someone once said: "Timing is everything".
There were no 1968s at the National Convention, but there were loads of original paint 1969 to 1972 Corvettes there, but that time has passed.

Thanks for the great pix guys. That gives me everything I need with the exception of where the gills are and the toughest area where the front clip attaches.
Any pictures of those areas would be great.
Especially if someone has pictures of the front portion of the jambs with the door off. A guy can dream.
            Thanks again,
            Monte

              Hi Monte,
Perhaps you can glean some information from these pictures.
They're of my 71, original paint, un-hit, 46,000 mi. coupe, about 20 years ago.
If I had known then what I now realize people are interested in, I'd have done a better job.
Hope they're of some help to you. It's pretty shocking what the hinge pillar and hinges looked like.
              Regards,
              Alan

Because of the 4 picture limit it'll take a couple of posts.
First with the hinges still in place and then as I started to strip the original sealers and paint.

Here another 4, drivers's side but showing the upper and lower areas.
Please disregard black 'stripe' in the last picture.

                  2 more pictures and then 1 more….
The passenger's side prepared for new sealer materials/caulk, and then paint.
No, I didn't make it any where nearly as sloppy as it was originally.
                  Regards,

                    Alan,
                    Great pictures.
Thank you for taking the time. After looking at the pictures you posted it made me feel much better. There is not near the amount of work involved as I thought there might be.
