      Bill-----

This pump was available in SERVICE from November, 1966 until February, 1969. What is the casting number and casting date? I can't see them in the photo. If no date on the casting, what's the date on the box flap?

This unit is virtually identical to the later GM #3998206 except that the latter has a dual pattern hub. Also, later versions of the 3998206 use a stamped steel impeller while the 3890017 uses a cast iron impeller.

Note the supplied gasket with only 2 bolt holes. This left side gasket was used in PRODUCTION for the left side on many small blocks but was never available separately in SERVICE from GM.

Download the pic and blow it up. The casting is a 326, no date you can see, paperwork discusses 3/4 bypass and need for a reducer in some applications. Nice piece of history.

          Joe,
Because the NCRS Technical Discussion Board limits the total number of pictures to four pictures per post,
here are the other four pictures to answer your questions. Bill Mock #93 MVC-008S.JPGMVC-009S.JPGMVC-010S.JPGMVC-019S.JPG

            Bill-------

Without a date on the pump casting and without a date on the box it's hard to say just when this pump was manufactured. However, we know it was between about November, 1966 and February, 1969 because that's the period that this pump part number was available in SERVICE. The date on the instruction sheet does not mean too much since this same sheet could have been used for earlier part numbered pumps. So, I'd say we know that the 3859326 casting was produced after 1965 without dates.
