Don - John Pirkle does great work and I know John and his family pesonally, but when I restore a the altenator shell (the aluminum cast housing ) I media blast it with 50/50 glass and plastic. I have tried many different ways to make it look new, but in my opinion the method as I just suggested give me perfect results with zero deducts on it's finish under originality. I have a place herre in CT that does all my media blasting work, and sometimes they actually let me do it myself to ensure self gratification.
