Re: Should I buy a hardtop? 1971
Choice is yours. Completely agree. I have a hardtop for the 68, for over 23 years now the hardtop has been stored in a up stairs bedroom. It was used be before 23 years ago. My 96's painted hard top piece has never been used. I like the see through blue tinted top. Actually have driven the 68 327/350 L79 more than I driven the 96 LT4 for last three years.- Top

Re: Should I buy a hardtop? 1971
I have an un-restored '68 with both tops that I have had for 26 years. Whoever had the car before me was either careless or the hardtop did not fit right. My car has scars, missing fiberglass, scratched paint, and faded paint where the top sits. This leads me to believe that, if you're not really careful when installing the hardtop, you can do some significant damage. On my car, the top rear portions of the doors were damaged by closing the doors with the hardtop in place and the hardtop (only) bolts were installed. I see no way to adjust the assembly, so I'm like the rest of these guys; get a hardtop if your car originally came with one, but don't ever install it. I made a nice storage rack in the back corner of the garage, and bought one of those two piece protective covers, and that's where it's gonna stay, as long as I own the car.- Top
