Distributor ID Help
The distributor in my 65' 327/365 doesn't seem to be a 069.It has what appears to be an o.e. MS 360-12 VAC and has the # "71" on the front top of the football.I changed the VAC to a B28 and while timing the engine I found that the centrifugal advance started @ 1100 revs. Sorry about the small amount of info. but the Dist. is in the car,any help is appreciated. Re: Distributor ID Help
Hi Doug,
The #71 football was a on the GM#1964925 shaft. It was used in 1965 on the 076 (327 250 & 300) and 087 (327/350) distributors. What is the number on the bottom of the rotation pole plate. Might be a 536CCW or maybe a 530 or 730 CCW. You should be able to see this with the cap off and a small mirror. This is the plate the rotor bolts to.

Re: Distributor ID Help
From what I've been able to determine, the MS 360 12 VAC was used on most if not all Corvette hydraulic lifter big blocks from '66 to '71 and was never used on small blocks. The patina on the VAC certainly indicates it could be original to the housing.
The maximum centrifugal advance is about 27 @ 4500, which doesn't quite match hydraulic lifter big blocks, most of which start at 900 and top out at at 39-32 @ 5000.
Doug has been experiencing hot running at idle and low speed traffic. A B28 VAC appears to have significantly mitigated the situation, but he want's to achieve a centrifugal curve closer to OE which is start @ 700, 24 @ 2350.
He has a spring kit on order, which should help, but probably won't get all the way there.
