Chuck gets the prize. 3814 for L79 smog cars. I bought 5 gallons of Sunoco race fuel locally (at almost 10 bucks a gallon!) and put it in my tank last night. Going to take her for a spin today and will report any changes. ...Chuck, congrats on your Duntov again! A deserving car for sure. Ara

      Jimmy,
A 50/50 blend of avgas seems to work good for me and the beauty is that avgas can sit in yout car for years without turning to gum. I use it full strength when I need to store equipment or cars. Have gone back after storage and all started and ran as if turned off yesterday.

        Ara,
I would check the bowl screws for tightness. Also, if he uses the reusable plastic screw gaskets I have noticed them not to be snug around the screw causing seepage from inside around the bowl screw. I use these on the top screws and the traditional type screw gaskets on the lower bowl screws FWIW..

Guys, I took her for a spin and had a ball with her. In fact, 2 good friends were down visiting from NJ so it was a good excuse to take her out and give their kids a ride in her. Let's just say I "exercised" her....The fuel leak was not nearly as bad compared to before adding in race fuel, but it still leaked.....Drivers side of the intake manifold. I am flirting with the other "highly" recommended carb rebuilder out there rebuild it and see what happens. With a 12 week old newborn in the house I don't have time to tinker the with carb.....ARA................Also, Tim I did tighten the bowl screws (Phil recommended I do that)....all to no avail.

We still have a leaking problem with my son's tri-power center carb. His seems to be the float adjustment. We're thinking the rebuild kits are a bunch of crap, and we'll have to get some individual Holley parts from say Jeggs or some place. I have nothing but intense dislike for the Holley design.

Ara, the leak on your carb is not from the fuel you are using. Phil likes half aviation fuel and half pump gas. I use straight aviation fuel with a Phil rebuild without any problems.

Re: Race Fuel? Use as suplement?

Just an update guys. Turns out the issue was a warped metering plate. I suspected this (after gently tightening the bowl screws). Sent the carb back to Phil, he confirmed the warped metering plate. Put a new one on and NO more leaks. Just wanted to let all the guys who helped me with technical insight in on the actual problem....Thanks again and Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARA

Similar situation but less of it on the L71. Mixing with racing fuel stopped the problem not to mention how well the engine runs with the racing fuel.
