    1962 340 hp oil canister

I have what I believe to be an original oil canister and bolt assembly for my 1962 340 hp....it is much different than my 1964 version that has a spring inside and the bolt dies not fall out.....the 1962 has a bolt with a copper washer and head mark "M"..... It seats against a steel washer over rubber.....is this an original complete piece or us it missing parts?, or is it wrong for my 62?image.jpg

    Dino,

The bolt should be captured by the spring and cone like your '64 canister. You can see the small tab on the shaft of the bolt in your photo. At one time that bolt was captured.

You can buy a repair kit with seal, copper washer and lock ring. But the cone and spring is missing on yours.

p.s. I think I have a cone and spring left over from a damaged canister if needed.

        Dino,

Also, I can't remember if the bolt head marking is typically AP or M for the 62-63 cars.

What do you mean by bolt is "captured"? When changing oil on my '62 recently, the spring and cone slipped off bolt but I put them it back in, added new filter and torqued bolt( which has washer underneath) to required 25 ft./lbs. No leaks. Do you mean the cone and spring are not supposed to not slip off bolt as mine did? Am I missing something? Will I have problems-incomplete filtration? or am I OK?

Your OK.....but when you go to change the oil you will have a mess because the oil will drip from the bolt, the spring assembly keeps this from happening.
