    67 Vette restoration

I have a couple of questions.
first what is the proper size or space distance on all of the gaps such as doors ect. I've heard 1/8 inch and also 1/4 inch which seems to wide. Mine are all terrible and different.
Second where would I find the correct color code for red interior. I am changing from Saddle Tan to red. I can buy seats, carpets, etc. but I have to paint the dash and all interior metal parts.
Thanks for you help, Ron Gunderson

    Ron -

All of the various panel gaps are shown in your Assembly Manual, in UPC 11-13, sheets B7 and B8.

Thanks for the numbers, but is 407 the paint code any paint company can make or who makes it?

            Ron,

Corvette Central and Paragon both sell interior spay paint. Do a search for their web sites or give them a call to discuss.

Thanks, I did get a spray can of the red but I wanted a quart for use is a spray gun and air brush gun to do the interior.
I've taken the rattle can to a local paint company and they are matching the color in quart size for use with spray guns.
Thanks for your help and response, Ron

Corvette America makes a great interior paint that is ready to spay out of a gun. Just prep it very well and spray. I would think twice about doing that to your car. Especially if it is a numbers matching car.

I know it's a big decision, the car is a white coupe with saddle tan, 4 speed, 327, 350hp numbers matching with factory air, side pipes and bolt on wheels but I just can't stand the Saddle tan interior so I am changing it over to red with leather seats and adding power windows. Don't know if that will affect the value but it will look so much better white with red interior.
Really appreciate all the feedback and help

Ron, I agree, white with red interior is sharp. My '59 AND my '07 are those combinations. Value will change but it's your decision, your car. Be happy.

I get my lacquer paint from a San Diego company....www.tcpglobal.com

They have color charts on their website in the "autocolorlibrary" link, but it appears to be down lately.

                    e.g. Here's a link to their Rally Red...http://www.tcpglobal.com/RSP-AL1711-QT.html

You may need to give them a call for the code that you need.

Yes that will hurt the value around 5-10k. So think hard about doing that. I personally like white over saddle and do not like white with red interior. Just my two cents.

                        Ron,

With the paint/dye expense, and labor for removing components to re-color them, you may be better off financially (and for time efficiency) simply buying new seat covers, carpet, panels, etc than re-coloring correct original pieces. Here are some advantages I can think of:

                        1) Seats, panels, carpet, etc need to be removed before recoloring regardless. New pieces in your desired red color can easily be installed in the tan pieces' place.
                        2) The amount of labor to remove and install stays the same; no additional labor is needed for the recoloring process itself. This includes the dash pad areas.
                        3) You still have saddle pieces available for the next owner, who very well may want to switch back to the original combination.
                        4) You get the benefit of brand new condition seat covers, panels, etc, along with how good they'll look.

It's your decision of course, but for me I'd rather pull all the old and replace with new than mess with paints, dyes, prep and clean-up. Also, just imagine the future discussion board posting: "I recently bought a 67 on which some *&^#! had re-dyed all the original interior color pieces to red. Will I take a bigger judging point hit on color not matching the tag, or on repo interior pieces that I now need to get the color back to correct?"

My apologies... I just read your original post again, and I see that you already are planning to buy new colored pieces wherever available.
