    '62 fuel tank problem

I replaced the original, badly rusted fuel tank on my '62 with a new Quanta repro tank. I've seen several posts relative to the fact that these tanks do not fit very well due to being slightly larger (in circumference and height), which is what I've found. It's in and secured but the cover will not fasten properly and sits higher than it should (about 1/4" or so) due to resting on the tank before it rests on the compartment floor.

My thoughts are making a 1/4" to 3/8" gasket all the way around the cover to fill the gap (or utilize a heavier than normal bead of sealant). Otherwise, has anyone had any luck with proper fit in another service replacement tank? At this point, I would rather have it (tank and cover) fit properly than have the OLA logo on the tank.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jerry,

I suspect you don't have the tank seated all of the way down. I have used the Quanta tank and while it is tight going in and the edges need to be bent a little, once it is in the lid should fit just fine.

Agree with Dennis, it is a tight fit but with a little work my fit and the lid went down all the way

I've done two. On my 60 the new tank needed the flange bent more to allow it to fit and sit down low enough. On my 58, no matter how much beating and bending I did on the tank, it would not sit low enough. Compared it to the original and the overall height was about 1/4" higher then the original. I finally gave up, cleaned the original and out it back in. Fit like a glove.............
