Re: delco battery
Dave, Some auto parts stores carry Delco batteries you have to do a internet search. Just a note the newer Delco group 24 batteries require a modification with a hack saw, the new batteries have a overhang on the ends that a carrying handle attaches to, you need to cut the end pieces off. I have done the modification a few times pretty easy The shield will not fit around the battery.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

They also advertise in the Driveline. I have purchased from them (Tom) for over 20 years. Good company.
You can also buy directly from Antique Auto Battery, which I believe is the source of the reproduction batteries. However, I have always just called Tom.

Re: delco battery
Dave,
You mentioned in another thread your car is in need of a restoration. If this battery is for the same car an expensive restoration battery is one of the last things I would buy. If you do buy it now be sure to get Battery Tender or equivalent. I would hate to spend big bucks on resto battery only to have it go bad sitting around.

Re: delco battery
Its your money so buy what you want. I purchased a correct tar-topped battery from Restoration Battery for the 1960 I restored and took through NCRS judging. For my 1967 that is a driver and will remain so, I purchased a black plain battery from NAPA and put on one of the fake delco tops. With it in the car the normal person doesn't know the difference. Of course it would never pass judging. I think I paid about $90 for the NAPA battery.
By the way, when I purchased the restoration battery for the 1960, I also purchased the battery maintainer that they sell. Not sure if it is really any better than others like the Battery Tender. But I figured if it offers anything more to keep the $290 battery alive, the $90 for the maintainer was money well spent.Don Harris

Re: delco battery
The ACDelco "Professional" series batteries have the handle and strap. They are the good ones. They are the ones that most dealers carry. But ACDelco also sells a battery called the "Advantage" which does not have a handle. These "Advantage" batteries are cheaper, and only come with an 18 month warranty. Not all the ACDelco dealers carry them.- Top

Re: delco battery
The overhang on the delco batteries is on the ends.
When you buy a Delco , compare the CCA and waranty to your old battery.
The Delco batteries now have lower CCA and the waranty is 15 months period. No prorating after 15 months.
I bought a battery for my 57 at Rural King (like a Tractor Supply) , Got 630 CCA a 15 month replacement warranty and prorating out to 4 years.
And it was 1/2 the cost of the Delco.
The battery is also made by EXIDE a manufacturer of batteries for a long time.- Top

Few days ago I purchased an ACDelco battery for my 67. The battery has a 42 month replacement warranty and is rated at 700 CCA.
