I have a standard 1957 Corvette (not a fuelie) and can not find an air filter element for the car. I can find the whole entire thing for about $1400, but I only need the replacement filter. The engine is a 283 single 4 barrel. I think that the replacement filter should be paper (not foam?) and is four louvers high. I'm having a hard time finding out what it is supposed to have. Any information on air filter for this car would be great! Thanks in advance.

Re: 1957 Air Filter
Mark,
Do you have an original air cleaner? The Tech Guide indicates the single four air cleaner has a non-serviceable steel mesh element, and I believe is a sealed construction were the lower edge of the top is crimped over the base plate. You'd have to uncrimp the edge to remove the top to replace the steel mesh element or clean it. If you have a paper element air cleaner, it's probably not original.- Top

Re: 1957 Air Filter
I have the original 1x4bbl air cleaner for my 57 & can send you pics if you want. It is a one-piece sealed unit. E-mail me @ sebringbill@comcast.net if you would like 'em.- Top
