I concur with Old School Plating. They are reasonable and can also accommodate small orders. Ask for Steve Orr.Bill Hyndman

Re: Cad plating / zinc / black phosphate in ohio
I have used Beringer Plating in Akron. I know they do Zinc and Cad plating because that is what I had done. You would have to ask about Black Phosphate.
I had had three batches of parts from my 1960 restoration and was very happy with the results.

Paul, I agree with you 100%. Losing my butt on every estimate lately as the plater keep raising the price. Ashamed to charge the customer the new high rates.
Story: Years ago I worked in a plating shop. So I know the routine. But today it's a different story with the handling of the chemicals.
I used to go to alocal plater in the Pittsburgh area and get cad plating done while I waited.(once in a while)
I would tip the forman on the line $10.00. Go sit in the employees lunch room & do a crossword puzzle. Go home (30 miles away) with my plating and it was dirt cheap. Took maybe 1-1/2 hrs max.
John
Paul, Beringers in Akron, OH does cad plating.
Aetna Plating in Cleveland is another big name.
Another plater in the Northeast is in Twinsburg, OH
For some reason Ohio is absolutely loaded with cadmium platers.
All comes down to this. Platers charge by the batch. Give them a lunch bag full or a large amount and you will pay the same price. Now to define large amount.
But I consider other things besides $$$. Has the plater every lost anything. Has he ever ruined any of my FI parts. Does the cad plating hold up or in short order does it turn colors.
It's a shame that cad plating is becoming one of the more expensive items in a restoration guys.
Another story: Years ago I had a bartender who worked in the plating department of a large compoany in my area in the day time. I would give him a lunch bucket full of parts to plate. The next night he brought me the parts back done. Free of course. No more stories. Promise. LOLLast edited by John D.; July 17, 2014, 07:25 AM.- Top
