    1966 Build Sheet

    Group:

I know that early 66 corvettes did not have build sheets. I recently viewed a blank build sheet to get an idea as to the data contained therein. How does one find this information and translate the various categories, i.e., strg pump, strg gear, engine tune label, carpet rear, etc. There are more than 100 different categories for each car!
Is there a guide somewhere for translating this stuff? Does anyone have a sample build sheet that references the various codes and/or categories? Many thanks.

    Ken -

St. Louis was VERY thorough in "de-papering" the Corvette as it passed through Final Inspection to the Shipping Gate, the result being that we only have ONE verified Corvette Broadcast Copy (and don't have the owner's permission to publish it), so there's no raw material to work with to develop a decoder. On the other hand, there will never be any demand for a Corvette Broadcast Copy decoder due to the lack of Broadcast Copies, so it doesn't matter much.

The other side of my hobby is '67-'69 Camaros, and our CRG (Camaro Research Group, www.camaros.org) has spent a lot of time developing a Broadcast Copy decoder for the '69 Camaro. One of our core members, Jerry MacNeish (www.z28camaro.com) has published it in his latest book, "The Definitive 1969 Camaro Z/28-SS396 Fact Book".

I've attached a typical '68 Camaro Z/28 Body Broadcast and a '69 Camaro ZL-1 Chassis Broadcast Copy; both of these standard Chevrolet forms were used at St. Louis, but virtually none ever left the plant, as they were internal Manufacturing documents of no interest or use to the dealer or the customer.

IMHO: The man who decided to "de-paper the 66 Corvettes" and thought it was a good idea was probably the same guy that designed
the ignition switches for later Chevrolet vehicles. Larry

No, it's not. If you mean the Broadcast Copies I posted, they were strictly a Chevrolet document in the steel car plants; nobody at Fisher Body ever saw one - it wasn't generated until well after Chevrolet received the body from Fisher, assigned the VIN, routed it through the Body Bank, and released the body into the Chevrolet Trim system for final assembly. Fisher Body had their own internal form for their build specs, called a "UOIT" (Uniform Option Information Tag). Fisher Body had zero involvement with the Corvette, just like trucks.

I know Fisher had nothing to do with Corvettes. On the very few broadcast copies of Chevelles or Camaros that I have ever seen I always thought it was a Fisher paper. Or at least that's how I took it from the Chevelle forum. But thanks for the clarification.
