    C-2 Vin Tags

Who at present is making C-2 Vin Tags? And yes, I have a rebuild title on the C-2.

    Thanks,

    Joe,
My 67 had the tags removed by the state before I could buy it. I sent you a PM as to what I did to put a repo tag on the vette and get the salvage off my title.
I chose to drive and admire my car. There are many here that can't see past their tags and look at and drive their cars.
My car is a surviver in another sense, I saved it's life from doom in the wrecking yard back in 1971.
If one can see past the 2 thin pieces of metal they will see a beautiful car that got a 2nd chance at life.
The only drawback was that it is a true 435/427. And will always be called a fake and or worthless because it had it's tags removed.

I know of a member who had an issue with a VIN tag at a meet. He had no idea (and I believed him). He spoke with the appropriate leaders in the NCRS, made a game plan, went to the DMV in Florida, got a state reissued VIN tag for his car and came back to get judged. In fact, I know TWO members who did this now that I think about it. Dom is right, enjoy the cars....but a tag will bother some people.....ARA

Getting a State issued vin tag, at least in this venue, will make you the " legal eagle ".

Some believe a state issued VIN will devalue a car. I consider the percieved loss of value the cost of "stay out of jail" insurance. A state issued VIN would not affect my decision to buy any car I was in love with otherwise.

In my opinion a car with a non original VIN plate is severly devalued....

Having owned a bunch of crappy cars with almost pristine VIN tags, I have to agree with this.

                DOM,

Thanks for answering my original question on the Vin TAG!!!

As you know this 63 is Resto-Rod so it will NEVER see an NCRS judging field!!!! This 63 will only be enhanced by adding a vin tag that corresponds with the title.

                Thanks again,

                JR

                    Dennis,
I'm having a hard time understanding your reply, do you mean the crapy cars with vin tags were better, or a pristine car with a tarnished vin is bad? Sorry for the question but I didn't understand.

What I am saying is that, given the location of the VIN tag, the most likely way it got damaged on a car in good condition probably has something to do with Grand Theft Auto or bilking prospective purchasers.

                        Dennis,
If a perfectly good car was wrecked and the repairs were more than the car was worth, in other words a total loss, the owner or lien holder could give it up and the tags would be removed. The car was salvage and was sold for parts, and in my case I bought the whole car from the dealer AS/IS. The car could be bought whole without tags and issued state tags. That happened in many cases when someone thought they could save the car.
Some were stollen and recovered and if the owner was paid off and the lien holder sold it to the junk yard then the tags would be removed. There were cases where I was paid by the insurance and was able to by back the car that was still in my possession. Also cases where the legal owner sold the car after it was recovered, WITH TAGS.
My 65 was stollen and the insurance man pocketed the money for my premiums. Even though he cashed my check a month before his lawyer and my lawyer had a pow wow and my lawyer told me it would cost more than the car was worth to fight him. His game was to pre date a claim if it happened and if not he kept the money.
I got the stolen car back with tags but was not in the position to fix it. I was the sole owner and sold the remains with tags and title. I later found out that the well dressed buyer could have been a thief.
In the past there was a member that had his vette stolen, when he got it back did the state remove his tags? If they did and it judged well before the theft, would it be thrown in with the others that lost their tags.
What if someone stold the tags of one of our prized cars worth 150K owned by one of us and the state issued tags? question here is, what would it be worth now.
I believe if a car was stollen and recovered it is still a great car, tags or not. Wrecked is another story that would have to be dealt with as to how good the repairs were.
Some only have dogs with papers and some have great dogs without papers, it,s hard to tell the difference.

                          Dom,

I don't want this to become anything more than it is, but you mentioned "stolen cars", "totaled cars", wrecked", "total loss", and a crooked insurance agent in your reply. I guess I'll stand by my statement. In certain rare cases, I'm sure you may be right, but overall, I'd pass on most such cars.

As I said before, my question has been answered!
