    Finish on Mufflers

I pulled the cat-backs off my 96 and the end caps, as well as the bottoms were painted. It appears original, but if I read the JG correctly, only the end caps are to be paited. Is that correct?

    TIA

On my original-owner 1992 the bottoms of the mufflers are painted low gloss black. Unless something changed by 1996, and I doubt it did, I would expect the same.

Thanks, Joe. I would be interested in hearing from one of the C4judges on this. I don't want to do this twice

        Jim,

If it looks original, I would not change it to match the JM. Manuals get updated/clarified as information comes to light.

My notes from my 95 delivery: muffer's blackout 100% with some black on inlet pipe also. I will look for my video of under side of car at dealer PDI to see if shows. Here is a photo at dealer and you can see that the muffler is 100% black.95 muffler.jpg

I worked at a Chevy dealer . There was a bulletin on repainting the mufflers because the factory paint would peel off . We did a few of these . The bulletin stated what kind of paint to use .
