    Bloomington gold

I missed Gold by 54 points but came away with Silver Certification. Round trip from Houston, TX to Champaign, IL was just over 2k miles. The 67 performed flawlessly through the rain and heat.

-Met many good people at the Event.
-Met with numerous NCRS judges some of whom judged my 67 at one of the 3 Regionals I attended in the last 4 years.
-Countless discussions with guys, gals and kids at gas stops along the way.

One more item (BG) checked on the bucket
    list.

Ron: Congrats on nice certificate. Just curious which org.(B/G or NCRS) was harder on the judging since you participated in both? Thanks Larry

Congratulations on a great accomplishment, not the least of which is driving from Houston to Ill. in the summer with a '67. Did you have A/C? I am also curious about the differences between a Silver at BG and whatever to achieved at NCRS. I have always wanted to do this too, but it is a long trip for me.

Went thru both NCRS & Bloomington judging - at the time NCRS was much harder. But at the time Bloomington was run by old owners - I do remember at the time Bloomington judges signed in/out, and the longest time spent on my car by any judge was 23 minutes. I think at NCRS more time was spent just approving my side exhaust. I miss those days.

I also missed gold by 49 points.

I found that there are many more items looked at by the NCRS, but the small things only amount to a small deduction. At BG, a small item can make a 5 point deduction.

I think that BG is much harder for an unrestored car, as there are many items that you end up taking a 5 point condition hit for.

I wish I could go back and try for gold, but I have a baby coming so will likely not have time for this next year.

              Congrats, Gary

Kids are the best things ever, even better than Corvettes.

Mama's are cool, too. It was nice to meet yours. It's also cool that she is high tech, with her iPhone!

Thanks Mark. My wife is due in November, so it will be time to sell my 63 and start looking for a 4 seater. I have actually been looking for around 2 years already, but the car I want is not exactly easy to find. 69 RS/SS convertible, but same options as my 69 vette...396 (325 or 350), 4 speed and factory AC.

My mom really enjoyed the trip. She was very nervous for the judging and constantly pointed out to me that there were fingerprints and dirt on the car. I think it has been 15 years since the last time I took a trip with her, will have to do it again sometime.

Ron, I was shocked when you told me you drove from Houston for the show. Your car looked spectacular in its white with blue interior. Thank you for bringing it to Bloomington. It's Gold in my book.

                    Re: Bloomington gold

I can't say the judges are any harder. Most of the BG judges are also NCRS judges. The differences I fount were:
-there is no BG Judging guide to hep you prepare
-BG breaks down components in lower level of details. For example shocks -front judges separate from back. Seat belts & seats passenger side / driver side. Paint 9 arrears: Front Fascia, hood, Pass front fender, Pass door, Pass read quarter, deck, driver rear quarter, rear facia, driver door driver front finder.
                    - Judging tome was about 1 hour:
1 Team for engine stamp and trim tags
1 Team with team members for Body & Wheels, Interior, Engine compartment, Chassis, Tech (Ops)

Thanks Tim. the whole thing (driving, certification, meeting people) was a great experience and well worth doing.

I felt the same way and agree the NCRS method is much more defined (like the Judging Guide).

Does anyone know how to score the percentage at Bloomington for Gold?I got gold with my 67, score sheet shows Gold-426 required. I had total points loss of 215. Would that mean I got approx. 97.5% score? I.E., half of the 426 required? 95-100% for gold?Still gold regardless when under 95%, just curious if this meant I was halfway to perfect! Many of the judges were NCRS ad had judged the car before at Texas regional. Was a good time, but long trailer pull from AZ and back.John

                            John,
It is my understanding that BG operates on an 8500 point schedule so 8500-215=8285 8285/8500=97.47 so basically a 97.5%
                            Great achievement!
The 426 refers to being able to have a maximum of 426 points deducted and still remain in Gold (greater than 95% correct; 8500-426=8074 8074/8500=94.98).

                              Congratulation on getting gold.
