    Electrical Tape - Part #3724851 & 3724852

The '69 AIM calls for this tape in several locations. I assume both part numbers are ordinary black electrical tape but I have two questions:

    1) Was it adhesive or non-adhesive wrap?
    2) What is the tape width of each for each part number?

No information on the part numbers but I believe the 2 different part numbers refer to the heat spec for the tape. Usually the under hood tape has a higher heat rating than the tape specified for under the dash and chassis.

      Floyd,

Gmpartswiki shows the 851 tape as 5/8" wide in the '69 Camaro AIM. I found nothing that identifies it as with or without adhesive.

The 852 tape did not appear in gmpartswiki.

In the various old wiring harnesses I've cut open over the years I've not found one that had adhesive. The tape ends are typically tied off by "intertwining".....

I bought some some years back and it was about 1" with no adhesive. I'm not in shop but could measure it. It wasn't hard to find and may have been in another of my GM car books.

Early electrical harnesses were taped with 1" wide non-sticky tape on the wiring harnesses themselves. in the '68-72 era, (I don't have the exact year in my head) there was a change to 1.3 inch wide tape and that was the standard from there on. As I recall it was used in .007 inch and .009 inch configurations. (max suggestion award to the lady who made the suggestion...)

The tape used in the plant was ordinary black electrical tape, with adhesive. The tape used at Packard Electric to wrap harnesses was completely different, as Bill noted.
