I have a low mileage unrestored 69 whose master cylinder has sprung a leak. Before I send it off to the rebuilders, I'm trying to decide whether or not to have the exterior "restored". The master cylinder currently has no trace of paint on it and realize that over the years it may have simply come off. Judging Guide says they were all painted low gloss black. If in fact they all did come black, I'll have the restorer paint it. If there are known original examples out there that were never painted, I will leave it as is. Has anyone ever seen an original unpainted 69 master cylinder? The build date for the car is Oct 68. Thanks, Chris

Are you sure the master cylinder is original to the car? I'm not aware of any original 1969 master cylinders that were unpainted. However, SERVICE master cylinders, including some GM-supplied examples after the late 70's, were notoriously unpainted. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
