    knock off wheel spinner hammer

i've used the original lead faced hammers that GM supplies with the midyears and i've got a leather faced hammer that i've preferred to the GM lead baby. i was installing the K/O spinners on a 65 today and discovered a hammer i now prefer to the leather hammer. its a snap on56 oz dead=blow hammer, snap on part #hbfe56. its plastic face won't mar the spinners. too bad they don't make one a bit heavier--perhaps they do. will check with snap-on salesman next time he drops by. mike

Mike, I have carried a dead blow since I got my wheels. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is or model. Don H.

Mike, I went to Home Depot and bought their large orange dead blow hammer. It's covered in rubberized plastic and weighs about 6 pounds. Take a peek at theirs.

          66 K O 'S,
I got the tool from Dennis Portka..costly,BUT well worth the peace of mind knowing the wheels are torqued to the proper spec..Dennis gives a complete description on how to achieve proper setting .
I feel the expense of the tool is out weighed by the cost of a lost wheel at any speed.
          Francis.

In old days Doc we used to use nice sledge hammer and a block of wood.
Story: I had a new 66BB with 4 KO's from the factory. I said four. Window sticker said KO's but the car came with a steel rim. But that's another story.
Had a flat tire on the RF wheel one night when I hit a curb. Could not get the KO off with the cheap lead hammer. The dealer could not get the KO spinner off either.
So Tim at Grabiak Chevrolet called the owner of the dealership over (was his Uncle) and showed him the spinner would not come off even with a sledge hammer and many pieces of splintered wood.
Tim was instructed to get the thing off at all expense and then put everything new on. And so he did. Broke the spinner getting it off. Tru story. JD

+1, these new tools are the only way to go, forget the hammers.

I also vouch for Portkas tool. It works like a charm, without any damage.
