63 A/C Fan Belt

I'm replacing my A/C belt on my 63. It's factory air.

I'm trying to install Quanta belt B-024 GM number 3840397. There is no way the belt is long enough. I just can't get it on.

I know the 63 compressor bracket is a one year only setup, but still the belt should install.

Back in 2006 Ken Schurr posted that he was able to install the 3840397 belt on his 63 conv. with A/C. He must know a trick I don't

Any suggestions, thoughts, etc??

Harry, The last I saw your car it must of had a belt on compressor, what belt did you take off and what was the part no. on belt? If it was a gates or dayco there should be a 4 digit part no. ( Like 7530 which translates to 3/8 thickness and 53 inch's long, likely yours may start with a 9 which is 1/2 belt thickness). any way if the belt from quanta is the same length it should work. Sometimes what I do when a belts about a half to an inch to short, I will start the belt on the crankshaft pulley and A/C compressor first and then the water pump last, if this how the belt routes on your 63. If it goes from compressor to crank shaft pulley then start at compressor first the crankshaft last, and lastly one last trick is to completely remove the bolts on the adjusting slides to see if that will let the compressor slide down just a bit farther.

Ed, the belt I am replacing is GM 9433769. It's a service replacement belt. The length is 58". The Quanta belt has a length of 56.25". Quanta sent me a second belt that they sware is 57" long but I get 56.25" and that is too short to install.

Harry can Quanta send you a belt slightly longer. that length is going to way to short, generally you might get away with a 1/2 to 1 inch. There might be something different with a pulley diameter some where.Although Quanta belts have been known to be off on the correct lengths.Their belts are not cheap.

That's probably a Tonawanda block in your 63. Very rare 1963 with AC you have there!
Good luck at Barrett_Jackson as they can really market those rare and one off Corvettes for NCRS members!
