Re: Horns not working
Do the horns work consistently when you apply external power?
If so, do they work immediately after plugging them back into the wiring harness, then stop working after sitting for a while?
I'm wondering if the contacts, internal to the horn, may be corroded.
I ended up having to replace my horns, they sat too long, corroded. One worked intermittently, the other not at all.
Another option may be to check for power reaching the horn. Do you have a volt meter or test light?
Connect a meter or test light to the harness, press the horn button, see if you're getting 12V to the connector.- Top

Re: Horns not working
Bill, the horn relay get's it's ground from the steering column center shaft. Check the shaft with your meter and see if it has a constant ground. There is a brass or copper strap inside the steering coupler that transfers the ground from the steering box to the column. This strap wears out as the coupler ages. Good Luck, Joe- Top

Re: Horns not working
To add to Joe's response go out to the horn relay and listen for a click when someone pushes the horn button. this will let you know if the is power and if the ground is good to relay. with this simple inspection. sometime the relay points will fail not permitting power to go to horns.and another is the ground on radiator support can be an issue if there is not a bare metal finish and also a star washer between the ground wire and support.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Horns not working
I do not have a C2 any more, however when the horn would not work on my 1985 I found out why. Removing the steering wheel cap it was easy to see why, a plastic connector had broken. Can't describe it exactly since it was many years ago, but it was a easy fix without having to buy any parts, had something in the garage to fix it.- Top

Re: Horns not working
Common things common. Take relay off; take apart and lightly dress the points to remove corrosion.- Top
