From what I remember both had the wording "USE GM 6041-M-QUALITY MS OIL". The judging manual does not mention this dipstick with the wording "USE GM 6041-M-QUALITY MS OIL"Can you take a picture of your 70 LT1 dipstick or confirm what you have?
I checked my Feb 70 built LT-1 & that wording is what mine is like.

Heck, I was asked to quit discussing it back in post #15...guess that only applied to me After all, it was just a simple question.

          I'm getting an education here.

Back to my main question though, is the dipstick that I have original for a late production LT1? Again the question that I raise is the NCRS book states something other than what I have / what is being discussed here.

          Thanks,

          Dave,
The present version of the 1970-72 TIM&JG grew from the 1970-72 Judging Manual. That Judging Manual only spelled out items that were judged at that time and dated from 1985. We still do not usually ask the owner to remove the dipstick for judging. We simply judge what is visible as installed on the engine.

Since the early 1990 the judging book has begun to contain technical information that is not judged. As newer versions come out they will contain more information that is not judged, but I can assure you we both will go to our graves with information lacking (both judged and non-judged) in the latest manual. The task of the Judging Manual revision teams is much like Sisyphus of Greek mythology, except we volunteer for it and it is not a punishment.

It was a simple question about a part that was installed on the assembly line 44 years ago. Very few people keep a car for 44 years and keep records to verify which parts are original and which parts have been replaced. I am 100% sure about my answer after collecting, researching, and studying Chevrolet dipsticks for the last 30 years but there are others that have their own opinions.

The above from Gary are for a small block. With any luck we will shortly have images of the dipstick from 1970 #1865, another small block.

My base engine 70 #9753's dipstick, which I believe is original to my car, appears identical to those in Gary and Patrick's pictures.

As soon as we can establish that these pictures also work for later 1970, 1971 and 1972 small blocks; and we can get similar broad information about big blocks of the same period -- then the TIM&JG can be updated.

                            See the problem Terry?

For what it is worth my three 1970 small blocks all have the same as Gary and Patrick's pictures.

I have owned my E1969 350,350 , stone stock, since 1970. The dipstick has a black plastic plug and reads ADD,FULL,ENGINE OIL with the letter "W" or "M". I am 99.9% sure. this is the part that came from the factory.
