    Mixing leafs on rear springs

Can you take two old spring sets and take the best of each to have one better set. One set had a too flat an arch and when I took it apart the bottom looked to be the culprit as it was almost flat, the rest were arched fine. The bottom one on the other set was better. In other words just use the best leafs to a make one set. I also want to use the least surface rusted ones, none are bad or pitted.

    Dale,

I don't think it will hurt anything to mix from different 9 leaf springs to get all good leafs.

I agree with Timothy, but I'm wondering if that lower leaf, which attaches to the trailing arms via the longs bolts, should be that way. I took a new reproduction 7 leaf F41 spring apart a few years ago to paint each leaf gray. I can't exactly recall if the lower leaf was flat, but I seem to remember that it may have been.....flatter.

All leafs should be similarly arched. Picking the best of two sets is exactly what I did for my own spring. carry on...

Thanks for the info guys. I feel better about my game plan now. Interesting about that lower leaf being flatter maybe someone knows the story on that.

May not be meaningful since mine is a reproduction, but I just bought a set of the Eaton Detroit springs. When I took them apart to paint, all springs had an arch, no flatness to the bottom leaf.

Okay, thanks Don. I had the Eaton repro too but couldn't recall if they were all arched or not. Thanks for clarifying.
