I have a 1969 s/b base model. I would like to know if the bolt to the water pump for my adjustable alternator bracket is a normal head bolt or is it what i call a threaded rod with a bolt head in the middle. I think it is used on a b/b. I thought it is used on a s/b also. Alternator pully not lining up with just the bolt.

Re: Alternator adjusting bracket lower mount
Do you have the lower alternator bracket on first (against the water pump) and then the upper bracket second?Leif

It's a STUD originally of GM #3877646. This is a "double-ended" stud with a hex flange. It was last available under GM #461318 but it's discontinued. However, it's easily available in reproduction. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Alternator adjusting bracket lower mount
no, the adjusting bracket is over the lower bracket support. Curious about the mounting bolt itself. Thank you for responding- Top

Re: Alternator adjusting bracket lower mount
Roger------
The fastener pictured is NOT related to the waterpump and has absolutely nothing to do with the alternator adjusting bracket. In this case, the part fastened is the COOLANT OUTLET, sometimes called the THERMOSTAT HOUSING. The fastener used at the position you are pointing to was a "double ended" stud, but I don't think the one you have is correct. For one thing, it looks a little too long. While a stud was used for this application, the upper end was unused.
This is an absolutely known correct stud since it's an absolutely known-original 1969 stud:

By the way, the coolant outlet stud was GM #3932368. It's discontinued but a similar stud is available under GM #12552858.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
